About the Flood Awareness and
Emergency Preparedness Campaign
of the Nurture Nature Foundation
NNF’s Flood Awareness and Emergency Preparedness Campaign was developed in response to recommendations of the Interstate Flood Mitigation Task Force, convened by the governors of the four Basin states after the recent flood events of 2004, 2005 and 2006. NNF will coordinate the program with complementary flood education and flood warning activities undertaken by the Flood Advisory Committee of the Delaware River Basin Commission.
The program will disseminate information on how the flood warning system works, how river flood warning and flash flood warning information can be obtained, and the importance of local knowledge of the meaning of flood stages. An outreach team will develop and distribute a series of public service announcements for radio and television and create complementary educational materials, including a replicable display focusing on flood safety education, for use at the Nurture Nature Center and science centers around the nation.
