Flood Losses from the
2004, 2005 and 2006 flooding in the
Delaware River Basin Watershed
The Delaware River extends 330 miles and its Basin provides water to nearly 15 million people (approximately five percent of the nation's population). In 2004, 2005, and 2006 three floods occurred on the Delaware River, resulting in approximately $226 million in total Basin-wide paid claims under the NFIP, as follows:
September 2004 – Ivan: 1,313 Closed Claims; ~$ 46 Million (data as of 02/28/07)
April 2005 Event: 1,977 Closed Claims; ~$ 73 Million (data as of 02/28/07)
June 2006: 3,045 Closed Claims; ~$ 107 Million (data as of 02/28/07)

Out of all the counties in the Basin, Northampton County, where Easton is located, ranked third in claims for the first two floods, and fourth for the final one, with paid losses totaling approximately $35.5 million, of which $9,649,653 were incurred in 2004, $13,000,859 in 2005, and $12,812,674 in 2006.

The City of Easton ranked fifth in the 2005 floods, and seventh in the other two, out of 152 municipalities that suffered losses. Easton’s total losses were nearly $7 million, of which $1,714,974
were incurred in 2004, $3,565,469 in 2005, and $3,411,593 in 2006.
